Since joining the European Union (EU) in 2004, any EU national is able to live and work in Cyprus. The EU allows for freedom of movement for all citizens of the European Union members. An EU citizen wishing to work in Cyprus, must register with the Department of the Population and Migration Archive within 8 days of arriving in the country. By doing this the worker is able to work for a period of up to three months. To be entitled to work more than three months an alternative procedure must be followed. Again the EU citizen must register with the Department of the Population and Migration Archive and receive a Residence Permit. Once employment has been found, an employment contract must be stamped by the Department of Labour of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance. The employment contract must include the period of the employment, duties and any other relevant particulars. |
